Evelyn Love Coleman, daughter of the late Jesse and Ladell Love, is a native of Waxahachie, Texas. She was married to the late Alford E. Coleman for 42 years.

Mrs. Coleman began her education at Oak Lawn Elementary School and graduated as salutatorian from Turner High School in 1966. She continued her studies at Prairie View A&M University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, graduating Cum Laude in 1970. She pursued graduate studies at East Texas State University, obtaining a second certification in Special Education in 1972. Mrs. Coleman later returned to graduate school at Texas A&M University–Commerce, where she achieved a Master of Education degree in Secondary School Administration.

Her professional career in education commenced within the Waxahachie Independent School District at Marvin Elementary School. She was subsequently assigned to establish special education resource classes at Northside Elementary. Mrs. Coleman taught at T.C. Wilemon Junior High and, in 1988, was appointed assistant principal of Waxahachie Junior High School. In 1990, she became principal of Turner Middle School, a position she held until 1998, when she was named Director of Curriculum for grades K–6 in the district.

After retiring in 2001, Mrs. Coleman continued her service to the district as a volunteer and mentor. She was elected to three terms as a trustee on the Waxahachie Independent School District Board, where she served as secretary, vice president, and president. Mrs. Coleman firmly believes that learning is a lifelong process
